LOUIS TEMESVARY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Golden Gate Section and the Society of Plastics Industry (SPI) Northern California Chapter have funded a self perpetuating scholarship fund in honor of Louis Temesvary.
Lou Temesvary was a highly regarded tool designer who was well known for his exacting detail and creative solutions to new challenges in the plastics industry.
Lou was a regular lecturer at Chico State University and Mold Masters technical courses. He held several patents, including, most recently, a remarkable concept of circular trajectory release of a final product. His significant contributions to the development, analysis, and design of Hot Runner systems allowed for the implementation of Runnerless Technology at the sophisticated levels used today. Many new parts were able to be mass produced due to the extraordinary idea of using self-unscrewing mechanisms in a wide variety of applications.
Lou's inexhaustible talent shows in every product he touched, from experimental models for educational products to multiple part assemblies for major OEM's in Silicon Valley. His work was well known among plastic molders and designers throughout America and other countries as well. He shared his knowledge with anyone who needed good advise in creating a new approach to a problem. Lou always provided great support to the students he worked with, because he strongly believed in the value of education by those in industry.
Lou was active in both the SPE and SPI, serving as Golden Gate Section President in 1977 and was elected to the Golden Gate Section Hall of Fame in 1989.
The Louis Temesvary Memorial Scholarship is given annually to one or more deserving students who are members of one of the local SPE-GGS student chapters: San Jose State University, San Francisco State University, and California State University - Chico.
Qualification requirements for the scholarship include:
academic achievement
faculty or industry recommendations
a demonstrated interest in the plastics industry
an entrepreneurial spirit
The scholarship awards $750.00 for the student and $250.00 for the Student Chapter.
With the help of corporate sponsors and an ANNUAL GOLF OUTING, the SPE-GGS hopes to be able to increase the amount of the award, and perhaps, to be able to provide multiple scholarships. Administration of the scholarship is done on a volunteer basis, therefore all contributions go directly to the Fund.
