SPE GGS board meeting – Phone Conference Call

Go over current Tech Fair Registered persons

Discuss problems with registration procedure

Assign action items to board members for the day of Tech Fair and Education Night

The deadline to receive applications for Lew Temesvary scholarship is over (two weeks before September 26). I do not want to extend the deadline.

Tech Fair Registration:

  • Laptop and projector needed.
    • Alfonso will bring one but only has 2003 version. 
    • Richard will bring his as well with 2007 version.
    • Eric will bring laptop and projector
    • Recommend speakers email presentations to Alfonso and Richard prior to the tech fair to confirm presentation can be viewed.
  • How many students plan on attending education night?
    • 6 students signed up for education night from San Jose State
    • Between 3 and 10 students will be at education night from Chico
  • Additional attendees from Flextronics will be there, Mikki to provide listing.  No Charge for Flex people since they are hosting.
  • Representative from Flextronics will introduce speakers ~ 10 minute introduction
  • Board members and speakers should meet between 12:00 and 12:30 to review and get settled and signed in before the tech fair starts.
  • Eric to attend both education and tech fair
  • Zia will attend both education and tech fair
  • John will attend the tech fair, cannot attend education night

Actions:

Mikki

  • Ordered 36 sets of notebooks and pens which will be handed out along with speaker notes at tech fair
  • Bring 3 gifts for speakers
  • Confirmed sharks tickets, will bring for raffle prize

Alfonso

  • Primary greeter at Tech fair and education night
  • Will give a brief introduction before the Flextronics representative’s into speech at Tech fair.

Richard

  • Print out speaker notes, bios and questionnaires for 40 people

Zia

  • Bring a new receipt book for Mikki.
  • Bring 6 or 7 checks to have enough for school donations.

Eric

  • Bring laptop and projector
  • Bring a few bottles of wine for raffle prizes

SPE GGS board meeting

Tech Fair:

 

Final Details for the Tech Fair to take place September 28 were decided.

 

Social hour for the Tech fair will take place between 12:00 and 1:00 PM (informal)

 

Two students from San Jose State University will provide gate attendance and screening persons coming into the building.  These students will be granted access to the Tech Fair free of charge.  All other students need to pay a fee of $10 to attend.

 

Richard Chung provided a sample speaker list and evaluation questionnaire for Tech Fair attendees.  Richard will make some editing changes to the format and questions

 

Sponsors need to be found for the Tech Fair and Education night.  The sponsorship level is as follows: Bronze, $250, Silver $375, Gold $500, or a single Super Sponsor can sponsor the entire event for $5000.  All Board Members should actively seek to find sponsors.  Sponsors will have their company name and information prominently displayed at the Tech Fair and Education Night. Sponsors will also be verbally acknowledged.

 

We will have a raffle at the end of the tech fair for the following prizes

Polymer book – donated by Richard Chung (Richard Chung will select the book to be donated and let Alfonso Lopez  know the title and Author)

 

Two bottles of wine – Donated by Mikki Larner and Plasma Technology Systems. Mikki will look at wine remaining from the wine corks talk.

 

Hokey Tickets to San Jose Sharks – Donated by Mikki Larner and Plasma Technology Systems. Mikki will check on availability and let Alfonso know the event date.

 

Catering has been arranged by Mikki Larner.  The cafeteria at Flextronics will handle refreshment for the Tech Fair at a cost of about $250.

 

Mikki Larner will check on getting pens and pads for Tech Fair attendees.

 

Board members planning to attend the Tech Fair are asked to bring their lap top to have several back ups.

 

$100 gift certificates will be given to speakers

 

Education Night:

 

 

Education Night commencement will begin at 6:00 PM rather than 7:00 PM.

 

The individual registration cost was decided to be lowered to $35 for professionals.  Student price will remain at $10.

 

Schools need to participate and students must present relevant plastics related projects and investigation to receive SPE GGS gift moneys.

 

There have not been any Lou Temesvary Scholarship applicants.  Applications must be received by September 19 be considered.

 

New Board Members:

 

John Zarganis from Wave Zero has been elected to be our new Secretary. He will take over responsibilities beholden to the secretary as outlined in our section operations.

 

Jennifer Hoffman has been nominated to serve on the board as an advisor.

 

Action Items:

 

Alfonso Lopez to send SPE GGS members email about Tech Fair and Education night

Alfonso Lopez to inform Golden Gate Polymer Forum and SAMPE about tech fair.

Richard Chung to Edit Tech Fair Printed Schedule and event survey based on feed back from the board

Richard Chung to donate a polymer text book or reference as a raffle prize,

Mikki Larner to check on San Jose Sharks Hokey Ticket availability and select two bottles of wine as raffle prizes

Mikki Larner to purchase SPE GGS pens and pads for Tech fair attendees.

Mikki Larner and Alfonso Lopez to contact Lee Hornerberg about serving on the board, possibly as membership chair
