1) Introduction of board members/positions

2) Budget update
a. 2009/2010 fiscal year (ending June 30, 2010)
i. Net income = (-$589.71)
ii. Ending balance = $65,827.37
b. Sponsorship money to come in soon (through Mike, ads on website)
3) Current event format/turnout
a. Cost for future lunch events $15 (members $10) or $20 ($15 members)?
b. Do technical webinars instead of face-to-face meetings?
i. Webex through Exponent
ii. Online meeting through SPE
c. “Speed networking” (like speed dating) events?
d. Dinners with two topics (one plastics, one general interest)
e. At monthly talks, have everyone do 30 second intros of themselves and their company
4) Current GGS membership demographics
a. Education (high school/community college/undergrad students)
i. Put education in SPE-GGS mission statement
ii. BOD members speak at local high schools
iii. Journeyman program?
b. Add student board positions for local student chapter officers?
i. Recruit (require?) college SPE officers attend 1-2 BOD meetings per year
ii. Why do students not attend spe-ggs meetings? Travel time, especially in middle of day? Cost? Location?
5) Discuss calendar events planned through December
a. September (@ Exponent, 3rd Thursday) Alfonso Lopez – Benefits of SPE membership
i. Combine with social event?
b. October (@ Exponent, 3rd Thursday) Dr. Riise from MBA Polymers – Recycling durable goods
c. November (@ Exponent, date TBA) – Dr. Chunhua Li from Align Technologies (topic TBD)
d. December – Past President’s Day (proposed, but not planned yet)
6) Discuss ways to get more involvement in GGS from active SPE members in the Bay area (and recruit new SPE members)
a. Consider Philadelphia model: mini-sections with social networking events located geographically within each mini-section
b. Because members and non-members attend meetings
i. Consider sending meeting invites, newsletter to non-members
ii. Create list of folks for e-outreach
iii. Linked In
c. Possible future speakers (Webex seminars?)
i. Len Czuba- Past SPE President/Medical Plastics Division
ii. Chris Ruewaandal
d. Add professional development topics?
i. Time management, use of smartphones, productivity/efficiency, online plastics tools
e. Market SPE-GGS as a resource for networking/discussing plastics-related problems

ii. “What companies/resources are out there to help me solve my plastics-related problem?”
f. Market SPE-GGS to other trade associations?
i. Post meeting info on their newsgroups?

7) Action items
a. Mike – Organize past Presidents for possible ‘Past-President’s Day’ party in December
b. Mike – Move sponsor ads to top of Spearhead
c. Richard – Contact innovator/design groups to see if they can advertise SPE-GGS events
d. Alfonso- Confirm speakers for October/November
e. Alfonso – Send Jennifer blurb on his September talk (Jennifer will qc and send to Mike for newsletter)
f. Jennifer – Send weekly e-mail blast every Monday to members/non-members about upcoming meeting dates/times/locations/topics
g. Jennifer and Mikki – Identify venue for the September kick-off meeting
i. Jennifer will ask Eric A. for San Jose venues
ii. Mikki to look into pizza/beer restaurants
iii. One venue is Exponent. Jennifer can host event and arrange for catering.
h. EVERYONE – Bring ideas to the August BOD meeting for future speakers/ tours/topics
